KFC Cooma "Clash of the Codes"

Twenty 20 cricket returns

THE Cooma Red Devils rugby union team will take on the Cooma Stallions rugby league side on Friday night in the Monaro’s very first 20/20 clash of the codes cricket match.

The match, which was scheduled for last Friday, was postponed due to wet weather. With forecasts predicting more wet weather today and tomorrow, event organisers have their fingers crossed the rain will hold off.

The exhibition match will be the first of its kind on the Monaro and places the regions four major sporting codes against one another. Football players from four different codes- AFL, soccer, league and union- will trade their balls and jerseys for cricket bats in what is anticipated to be a fun and exciting game. Players from each team will be looking to entertain the crowd with some big sixes and quick running between wickets in the tradition of the 20/20 format of cricket.

While most of the players on each team play in the regular cricket competition on the weekend, the one week delay would be welcome for those who were looking to get in some extra bowling and batting practice before the big game.
When the Express spoke to players from each team in the lead up to the game last week, Red Devils player Ned Jeffries said it had been two years since he had played cricket competitively and he was hoping to get in the nets for some much needed practice.
He predicted the Cooma Stallions would have a slight advantage over the Devils. The Cooma Cats Australian Football Club and the Cooma Tigers Soccer Club will go head to head on December 17 and the final will be decided in the new year on February 4.

The action will get underway at Rotary Oval from 6pm with Milo In2 Cricket activities for six to 12-year-olds from 5pm weather permitting.
