20/20 Cricket Comes to Cooma

In an exciting development for Cricket in the Monaro region, 20 overs a side cricket or "20/20" as it is more commonly known will come to Cooma for 3 exhibition trial matches this December, January and February.

The format will be simple with each of Cooma's football teams invited to submit a side for an exhibition 20/20 cricket game to be played under lights on  a friday evening at Rotary Oval, Cooma this December. The first game will be between traditional rivals the Cooma Stallions Rugby League Club and the Cooma Red Devils Rugby Union Club on Friday 3rd December. 2 weeks later on Friday the 17th December the Cooma Cats AFL Club will take on the Cooma Tigers Soccer club in what promises to be close affair. The sides will face 20 overs each with no bowler allowed to bowl more than 4 overs. Fielding restrictions will be in place and the game will take place with a white cricket ball. The captains will toss at 6pm with the action starting at 6:15pm. The games will take approximately 3hours so the action will be thick and fast. Full BBQ, canteen and bar facilities will be available and families and friends are invited to come along for a great evenings entertainment.

The winners of the two preliminary rounds will go through to the 20/20 MDCA Shield final to be played on Friday 4th February 2011. If the concept is successful in the 2010/11 season it is proposed to roll it out over the 2011/12 season proper to all MDCA teams.
